36th International Conference on Biomechanics in Sports 2018

Dr. Victor Lopez Jr, and Mr. Christian Victoria, board members of the Rugby Research and Injury Prevention Group, affiliated with Hospital for Special Surgery, SPRINZ/Auckland University of Technology, Research Associates, and members of the Rugby Codes Research Group, have the honor to be invited to present for the first-year, at the 36th International Conference on Biomechanics in Sports 2018, with topics relevant to the growth of rugby in the Americas, which may have implications globally.

They will be presenting on the contact aspects of U.S. Rugby-7s players, which is a critical aspect in advancing our endeavors in understanding and helping our U.S. cohort of developing rugby players.

The International Conference on Biomechanics in Sport is the annual event for the presentation of academic research in Sport Biomechanics. It is aimed to host the conference in a rotation principle between Australasia, North and South America, and Europe and Africa.

The International Society of Biomechanics in Sports is composed of members from all over the world with a common desire to study and understand human movement, especially as it relates to applied sports biomechanics. Participants come from a wide range of backgrounds including exercise science, education, engineering, computer science, rehabilitation and medicine to name a few. Over the years, members, presenters, exhibitors and invited participants at ISBS gatherings have included persons from Argentina, Armenia, Australia, Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, China, Congo, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, England, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Latvia, Lebanon, Lithuania, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Portugal, Russia, Scotland, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey, Ukraine, United States and Venezuela.

The 36th International Conference on Biomechanics in Sports 2018, to be held in Auckland, New Zealand, 10-14 September 2018.

The conference is located at the Sir Paul Reeves Building, 55 Wellesley Street East, Auckland University of Technology (AUT) City Campus, Auckland.

The ISBS conference is hosted in partnership between AUT, AUT Millennium, High Performance Sport New Zealand (HPSNZ) and Auckland Tourism Events and Economic Development (ATEED).

The purpose of the conference is to facilitate knowledge exchange in sports biomechanics. The multi-disciplinary conference provides opportunities for delegates to experience AUT’s technology, innovation and education programes, AUT Sport Performance Research Institute New Zealand’s (SPRINZ) research and postgraduate applied work with elite to community athletes, HPSNZ’s innovation and applied work with elite athletes, the AUT Millennium service-research-education nexus, and the ATEED-HPSNZ-AUT-AUTM Sport Technology Forum that is integrated into the conference.

Delegates will experience traditional Māori culture during the welcome, closing and social events of the conference.

Within the Māori karakia ‘tenei au tenei au’ is the line ‘te hōkai nei o taku tapuwae’ – the breadth of my stride as Tane ascends to the heavens to retrieve three baskets of knowledge. This embodies human movement and the pursuit of knowledge – the goals of ISBS.
